Introducing the X-Mid

Yippee Ki-yay, we are excited to announce the newest OEM release!  After what seems like forever, but really isn't, we have in hand the new X-Mid. The name derives from the fact that this model is extra -- the size is in-between the Slim Utility and the Mid-Utility. Think Goldilocks, not too big and not too small, but JUST RIGHT!

The X-Mid is next in line in our Utility series. So the look is similar but this model has a machined clip and keyed studs in the rear. The blade is 1/8" thick; which is slightly thicker than the Slim. Also, the blade is 3" long, whereas the Slim has a 2.75" blade and the Mid-Utility has a 3.25" blade.  The blade steel is the same as our previous OEM, which is M390.

We are offering 4 versions:

  • Black DLC frames with bead blast blade
  • Bead Blast stonewashed frames with bead blast blade
  • Blue stonewashed frames with bead blast blade, and
  • Bronze and black stonewashed frames with dark stonewashed blade

10th Annual Holiday Fundraiser - 2022

Yep, it's that time of year again! Time for you all to join us in bringing smiles, hope, cheer, and happiness to the faces of little ones, and big ones. As usual we are raising funds for our local community. The monies will be divided among Toys for Tots of Socorro County, Toys for Tots of Catron County, The Samaritan Center Food Pantry, The Catron County Food Pantries, The Friends of the Magdalena Library, and Village of Magdalena Secret Santa Christmas Tree.

Our tokens of appreciation are pretty special this year, if we do say so ourselves! The Q has a Vinland Damasteel blade and Zirc inlays with the snowflake pattern. It also has a hidden snowflake inside the frames.

The Zirc snowflake tag is very pretty with this year's snowflake design on one side and the modified snowflake pattern the same as on the knife inlays.

As always we want to thank you so much for your continued support. We truly appreciate you. You will make a huge difference in the lives of many. Thank you!

9th Annual Holiday Fundraiser is Live!

The fundraiser is now closed. Thank you for another successful year! Update will be posted after December 20.

Please leave Comments blank. Do NOT mention waffle, RRaffle, donation, or anything else. Thank you!

2021 Annual Holiday Fundraiser

Can y'all believe it's already December 5?! That means I'm behind in promoting and telling everyone about this year's fundraiser. (Procrastination, table for one!) (And can we not notice that I have not done a blog post in a year. Yikes, I totally FAIL as a news correspondent. But I digress -- as usual.)

The fundraiser will be running from Thursday, December 9 - Saturday, December 11. Prizes will be randomly drawn after my dentist appointment on Monday, December 13. The link to donate will be posted here and everywhere on Wednesday evening, December 8.

This year, and forever more, the fundraising will be operating as a nonprofit under the business name of Cutting Edge Charities, Inc.  This really doesn't much change how we go about running it but you may notice the name on your receipts. One of the reasons I have been holding off on getting this party started is we are (im)patiently waiting to hear from the I.R.S. as to whether we have been granted 501(c)3 status. I was hoping we would have been approved months ago, but, alas, the waiting continues. All that means to you is your donation won't get a tax deduction -- but you will get our undying gratitude and respect! (If anyone has a friend in the IRS NonProfits Division, please put in a good word for us, and ask them to step it up, already. Thanks.)

As is tradition, we will be supporting our 6 favorite local charities - they are the Village of Magdalena Giving Tree, the Magdalena Friends of the Library, the Samaritan Center food pantry, The Socorro Storehouse food pantry, and the Marines Toys for Tots of Catron County and of Socorro County. These charities all have a web presence if you'd like to look into them.

The theme, yes, Virginia, there is a theme, is surprise, surprise...Snowflake! (Richard's clever that way.) The Slim Utility Zirc inlays are a one-time only riff off the Art Deco design on the snowflake ornament.

He even put a little snowflake inside the frame.

The other giveaways are 15 Zirc Snowflake ornaments and 10 Zirc Snowflake mini Tags.

There will be other prizes, such as 2 full-size Ti "Tenshi No Hane Bear Bone Custom" wings, a cutie CBJ mini bottle jack bead/ornament, CBJ slap pack, and other fun goodies.  And of course, these prize giveaways are our way of saying Thank You to all who support and help bring joy, hope, and brightness into the lives of the less fortunate.

2020 Annual Holiday Fundraiser

***CLOSED. Thank you all ! Our fundraiser was a major success raising over $34,000! I will follow up with a re-cap post in a few days. Now to go buy some toys!!***

Yippee Ki Yay, it's that time of year again! Time for our 7th Annual Holiday Fundraiser!  We were hesitant about hosting it this year in light of the current situation in the world, but the need is greater than ever and we know y'all want to help spread hope and love. So LET'S DO THIS!!

As usual, we are hosting this to help support our favorite local charities - they are the Village of Magdalena Giving Tree, the Magdalena Friends of the Library, the Samaritan Center food pantry, The Socorro Storehouse food pantry, and the Marines Toys for Tots of Catron County. These charities all have a web presence if you'd like to look into them.

The need is great in this rural, economically poor, no enterprise area in the second poorest state in the nation. There are many less fortunate families that can use some hope and cheer.  Especially this year as Covid has hit the area extremely hard.

So let's work together to bring some hope and smiles to lots of kids and their parents!

Our fundraiser will run from December 4 to December 11. We realize a week is a long time and we don't want to lose momentum but we feel it offers more people an opportunity to get in on the giving. And we want everyone who would like to join in to have the opportunity to do so.

Donations are accepted in any denomination, but every $10 donation gets one entry for a chance at prizes. This giveaway is a way for us to say Thank You for your support.

Our grand prize is a Slim Utility (!!) featuring a wave pattern in the Zirc inlays, especially designed for this holiday theme. It also has a matching milled clip and a Damasteel blade. The inside milling has this year's penguin and the year.

Other gift swag are 11 Zirc snowflake ornaments; an OEM Slim,  20 Zirc Penguin mini tags; a special surprise collab offering that will be revealed later in the week, and a few other goodies I decide to throw in.  Prizes will be randomly chosen on Sunday, December 13.

Counterfeit Knock-Offs

While at SHOT Show last week it was brought to our attention that the CRKT CEO has been counterfeited. The knock-offs are extremely similar to the CRKT version. So much so that we felt it was important to make you aware of what to be on the look-out for.

In all photos the counterfeit is on the bottom with the genuine version on the top.

The differences are minor and may be undetectable unless a real model is held up next to the knock-off.  The following details appear on the counterfeits:

  • On the blade the text and graphic are slightly larger
  • The clip is thicker and slightly more curved
  • The liners are thicker
  • On the inside of the locking liner there is a cut-out hole
  • On the back, the pivot screw is not flush - this is the most noticeable difference
  • Thumb-stud is slightly thicker and higher
  • Blade is thicker
Please realize that the CRKT warranty is not applicable to the knock-offs and as such will not be honored.  A counterfeit was brought to the booth, during SHOT, that had been purchased off of Amazon.

Price seems to be the determining factor. Ebay and other sites listing prices below $40 are to be viewed as suspect. If the price sounds too good to be true it is probably a counterfeit.

The best thing to do is buy from a reputable source and be very suspect of prices below $40.

Symmetry

The Symmetry is the newest design coming out of Richard's fertile mind.
This new model is basically designed for locales with knife restrictions.

The blade is under 3" long, it uses ball detents to hold the blade open and closed; so it doesn't lock open.

It is a very flexible design: operation is ambidextrous, the clip can be mounted for right or left hand use, or removed entirely. It opens like any flipper style knife. Many different blade shapes can be used, basically whatever will fit in the frame outline.

The tang is extended slightly so that when holding it in the open position your hand keeps it from closing inadvertently.

Weight: 1.8 ounces, 1.7 ounces without the clip
Blade: 2.9"
Frame: 4"

2018 Annual Holiday Fundraiser

This is a wonderful time of year, the time we host our annual fundraiser to benefit our local community.  All info about the drive is on our Crowdrise page, link at end of post.
This year marks our 5th year of bringing joy to so many.  And it is all due to all y'all who step up to help those less fortunate have a very merry holiday each year.  And the money donated to the food pantry feeds many for a few months. 100% of all donations is divided between the Village of Magdalena Toys for Tots Christmas Tree, The Friends of the Magdalena Library, and the Samaritan Center & Socorro Storehouse.
We have added the Magdalena Samaritan Center to our lineup. They are the food pantry/food distribution in our village who I have been helping this year. They are a worthy cause and great group of volunteers. They are a non-profit and feed a growing number of families from our village and neighboring Alamo Navajo reservation.
We are offering more prizes this year to spread out the fun! Prizes will be randomly chosen. The grand prize is a Vector V2 featuring frag pattern Ti with OD green ano. The CTS-XHP blade is stonewashed. The other prizes are Zirc snowflake ornaments, Zirc snowflake coins, Copper snowflake coins, an XL Pepe t-shirt, Big Trouble in Little China DVD, and one or two other things.
